Transitions with John Digweed Live at Glastonbury 2019 and Oliver Huntemann

https://www.facebook.com/djjohndigweed/

Some DJ careers are built on hype. John Digweed’s career is built on substance. One of the planet’s most popular DJs, his sets never fall out of favour with clubbers the world over, as his relentless global gig schedule testifies. From ethereal, swirling cinematic soundscapes to energy-infused bass-bothering tech growlers, a new generation of clubbers are learning what we already know – that there’s nothing quite like being locked into a John Digweed set.

But John Digweed is much more than a DJ. Bedrock – his record label, promotions company and production partnership with Nick Muir – is a mothership of creative ingenuity and integrity that other labels orbit around. His vision for the Bedrock record label has been realized over 12 years, as he continuously seeks out mixes and remixes from the world’s best producers. Techno mainstays like Marco Bailey, Christian Smith and John Selway sit comfortably alongside hot new talent like Guy J in the Bedrock camp.

In a dance scene increasingly inhabited by inflated egos and gimmicks, John’s approach remains all drive, no drama, a heads-down crack-on attitude that has won him the respect of his peers. However, the fact remains that John Digweed has notched up a mighty list of groundbreaking achievements since he first became involved in the embryonic acid house scene as a 15-year-old lad in Hastings. From Top 40 smashes ‘Heaven Scent’ and ‘For What You Dream Of’ (with Nick Muir) to world renowned mix CDs for Renaissance, GU and Northern Exposure, it’s little surprise he was voted No.1 DJ in the World by DJmag readers in 2001.

Ten years on, the excitement John Digweed generates is even more palpable today. With Nick he has scored a Hollywood film (Stark Raving Mad) and Spiderman`s animated series for Sony/MTV. Toured with David Bowie and Moby, and transformed Brighton Beach into the UK’s biggest beach party (250,000 people) with Fatboy Slim. His Transitions, Bedrock and Structures albums continue to turn new fans on worldwide, Bedrock’s recent 12th birthday party at London’s O2 Brixton Academy was a road-blocked sell-out and his Transitions radio show is one of the world’s most successful dance music shows, broadcast across 45 countries to a staggering weekly audience of over 14 million.

But the real beauty in John Digweed’s story lies in his unflinching belief in the music he plays. And with new music comes new chapters in an already astonishing career.

Dekel at Vortex Festival Of Fire

The phenomena of DEKEL is not easy to explain in words, but when you listen to his music, everything adds up. Every track of the ‘Junior Shaman’ It is a perfect combination of tension and intelligent beat drops wrapped with a deep psychedelic atmosphere. In a very short time since launching the project, DEKEL managed to create a real sound signature and a solid fan base.

His 1st EP ‘Technoid’ was one of the most successful debut releases in the history of HOMmega records and DEKEL became a local sensation in the Israeli scene. The EP was followed by deep banger tunes like ‘Magneto’ and ‘Twister’ which gave DEKEL an international recognition. DEKEL is already touring excessively around the world and 2019 is expected to be a very busy year for him as the work on his anticipated debut album is already in process as well.

“The Spoken Word

A veteran by no means his own right but by the sheer amount of time, dedication and memories… Sonic is the first of many SA Alums’ who have shown us that all good things come from hard work. With 16 years of experience under his belt, Gregg talks to the masses about a deeper sense of nostalgia from music… Allowing every note to tell its own story and radiate to a memory once experienced. Though seeming like a harder individual to most (presumably stemming from his Metal persona and origins), Gregg has a heart of gold and oozes passion till now. He is back for a little while… Go look for him while he plays… We tried to come up with a simplified way to explain his sets… We couldn’t… You have to see it in person.

The Scoop

1) Three Words To Describe YourselfGregg: Fun, Energetic, Optimistic.

2) Fave Release Of All Time?Gregg: Tristan vs. ManMade – I am Alien as it is current in the production sense and it kicks a$$ on the dance floor.

Remember it takes up to 10 years to master something so keep being creative as there is a lot of amazing music out there to tickle the dance floor for hours.

Bernz was born 1979 in Cape Town and grew up in the suburbs of early Table View.
Inspired by the electronic scene after a night at a Vortex featuring Matsuri Productions legend, Tsuyoshi Suzuki, Berns began DJing psytrance in 1997. With gigs at legendary venues, Getafix, upstairs bar and Labyrinth to name a few, Bernz proved that his style of music spoke to a wide spectrum of the early Cape Town club scene.

Bernz started producing psytrance in a modest production studio in West London in 2007 ENLARGING his empire by something something at Techno production.
after 2 years of traveling and increasing his knowledge on sound design, Bernz returned to his hometown in 2008 where he was promptly signed to Beartrap productions, one of Cape Towns premier psytrance organisations, as resident DJ.
Since then Bernz has performed as resident at most Beartrap events as well as others such as Alien Safari, Groovy Troopers, Origin Festival and in 2010 becoming resident Dj at Vortex.

Berns is described as a versatile DJ, reading the crowd, knowing how to get full impact from the dance floor. Conquering styles from full-on psytrance, ambient, progressive and techno with effortless style.

His progressive and techno set are full of groove, always interactive, making it impossible to leave the dance floor.

Berns is a true Cape Town treasure and has shared the line up with the likes of Tron, Dicktser, Zen Mechanics, Avalon, Materia, Ital, Protoculture, Headroom ,CPU, Menog and many more.

Goa Jonas at Vortex Open Source

https://www.facebook.com/GoaJonas/

After spending 18 hours non-stop on the Vortex dance floor, experiencing some of the best psy ever from Nukleall, Goa Jonas came on and played this set. I experienced it as the best psy set I’ve ever heard. It blew my mind.

DJ Goa Jonas was raised in Goa from the age of 5, 1989 onwards, thus got in contact with Psy-Trance at a very young age. He used to love to watch the DJs playing and when he turned 12 he took the chance to ask one of the older ones if he would teach him. At first playing around with D.A.T. tapes, borrowed from his mentors, he slowly built up his own collection of music, which he presented at the legendary Goan party location Disco Valley in 1997 for the very first time.

From 13-15 Jonas played on many parties all over Goa (Hill Top, South Anjuna Beach, Bamboo Forest, …), but one of the most impressive moments was being a part of the Boom Festival in 1998 in Portugal, just being 14 years old (until today the youngest DJ who ever played on the main floor).

In the beginning of 1999, he left Goa to visit his birthplace Germany, which brought the change from D.A.T. tapes to CDs. In the same year, he attempted to use the new possibility successfully on the Antaris Project festival in Germany. Shortly afterwards he spent a month in Ibiza, where he produced his first track “The Warp” with famous front man Riktam from GMS. It was released in the end of 1999 on T.I.P. Records, alongside the first 1200 Mics track. Before Jonas moved to his home town Hamburg, he shortly visited Goa to play on the big Millennium party at Hill Top. Back home, he finished school and started an apprenticeship, but never gave up playing. A few years later, Jonas returned back to Goa, where he organised his own Psy-Trance parties. Since five years Jonas is living in Berlin, from where he travelled around Europe, playing on many big festivals (Antaris Project, Freqs of Nature, Ozora, Sonica, Blackmoon Festival and many more). This year for the first time, he worked as the booking agent for one of the biggest Psy-Trance festivals in Germany: the Antaris Project. Furthermore, Jonas will be responsible for the musical arrangement of main and alternative floor in 2015.
